Microsoft has released the new Surface devices for 2018. There’s an updated Surface Pro 6, a new Surface laptop 2, the all-in-one Surface Studio 2, and surprisingly, a new pair of Microsoft noise-cancelling headphones. Microsoft ventured into the premium hardware market just a few years back and they’ve grown rapidly in terms of the quality of devices they deliver.
The new devices are pretty much updates to last year’s models, but there’s an icing on the cake. For dark theme lovers, the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 now also come in matte black colour and finish. Imagine using a dark theme Windows colour profile on that. Amazing!
Surface Pro 6
This year, the Surface Pro 6 comes with a 12.3” Pixel Sense Display, boasts up to 13.5 hours of battery, and an 8 MP front auto-focus camera. It also sports Intel’s latest 8th-generation Quad Core processors, and improved internal cooling system. According to Microsoft, the Pro 6 is 67% faster than its predecessor.
The device also offers up to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. USB ports do not include a USB-C which is rather disappointing.
Surface Laptop 2
The Surface Laptop 2 also received a spec bump with Intel’s 8th-gen CPUs which offers a whole 85% performance improvement from the older model. The screen has a higher contrast ratio, and Microsoft is quoting 14.5 hours of battery life. The device is said to house the thinnest LCD ever on a laptop. OmniSonic speakers are included for a richer sound experience.
Surface Studio 2
If you are a graphics creator, you’ll love the new Surface Studio 2. It is brighter, faster and more powerful than ever. The display is 38% brighter than the previous surface studio (over 500 nits brighter than before) with better contrast. The Studio 2 comes with Nvidia’s next-gen Pascal graphics and a 2TB SSD. More features include USB-C support, built-in Xbox Wireless support, and better Surface Pen.
Surface Headphones
Microsoft is putting this one out there for the audiophiles. The premium headphone has a classic minimalist design. It comes with adjustable noise cancellation and rich audio. Cortana is also inbuilt for reading emails, digital assistance, conference calls and so on. The device can take up to 10 wireless connections at a time.
