Born in Nsukka, Chris spent his early childhood in Lagos, attending Saint Mary’s Private School, Maryland and Federal Government College, Ijanikin, before going to Ife for his tertiary education. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantity Surveying from the University of Ile-Ife and a Master’s Degree in Project Management from the University of Lagos. He served as the deputy Managing Director for 20 years before leaving to establish Megalectrics.
Chris is a pioneer in private broadcasting and new media in Nigeria.
Chris, whose switch to the media industry in 1993 just at the time private media was emerging in the country happened accidentally, is now a force to reckon with. Chris admits that, although quality education is important, a career chosen in one’s teenage may not necessarily be the path to purpose although it could set a strong and solid foundation for one’s success in the future. Having an academic background has helped Chris to make a wave in the media industry and also make a name for himself.

New radio

The Beat 99.9 FM, established in September 2009, is a contemporary radio station. Along with Lagos Talks 91.3 FM, current issues affecting the country and its citizens are discussed, thereby giving Nigerians a voice. Chris Ubosi finds a way to balance the traditional and digital media, especially now that traditional media is fast fading out. People are hardly watching TV or listening to the radio; everything happens on our smart phones these days. In order to meet up, therefore, Chris and his team do their research, which could include ‘town hall meetings’ where the consumers are asked for their opinions regarding the kinds of shows and programmes that appeal to them, so that the Megalectrics team can go back to the drawing board and come up with innovative ways to stay relevant. Although the radio stations still operate traditionally, Chris’ organization has now added new features; one of which is the Radio TV. The Radio TV  lets viewers watch and listen to live programmes online as they air directly from the studio. To further aid this, one of Chris’ radio stations is linked to YouTube, where shows are streamed live continuously. In addition to this, they stream live concerts and have apps for their stations. Chris Ubosi is consumer-oriented. He believes that the purpose of radio stations is to entertain the listeners; therefore everything done has to appeal to the audience. Chris Ubosi serves on the board of several organizations including St. Saviours School, The Learning Place, Change-A-Life Charity, and Diamond Bank as a Non-Executive Director after CBN approved his appointment on November 3, 2017. He also consulted for the Federal Government in the establishment of 32 digital stations nationwide. Chris has several professional affiliations including National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), USA, International Advertising Association (IAA), The Institute of Directors (IoD), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), and Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (MNIQS).     References: https://guardian.ng/life/on-the-cover/chris-ubosi-beating-the-competition/amp/ www.diamondbank.com/about-us/our-organization/directors-profile/10647-2/ www.vanguardngr.com/2009/12/i-am-a-broadcaster-by-accident-say-ubosi/amp/ www.thebeat99.com/profile/chris-ubosi
