Here are a few interesting facts about the new Governor-elect of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa: 1. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa was born in Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State. 2. He’s a graduate of Edo College, Benin City (1970-1976) and University of Ibadan (in 1981) where he studied Medicine and Surgery. 3. He worked as a doctor at Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke in 1986. 4. He has held several political positions in Delta State including: Ika Local Government Secretary, Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Delta North Coordinator of the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM). 5. He has also been the commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources (July 1999 – April 2001), Water Resources Development (April 2001 – May 2003) and Health (September 2003 – October 2006) in Delta State. 6. He contested for the State Governor position in 2007 but lost at the PDP primaries. He was instead appointed as Secretary to the State Government under the elected governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan. 7. His position as Delta State North Senatorial candidate was heavily challenged twice; he vyed for the position twice in 2011. 8. He emerged as the winner of the 2015 Delta State Gubernatorial elections with 724,680 votes, defeating Labour Party’s Chief Great Ogboru who had 130,028 votes. The result was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Bio Nyananyo of the Federal University, Otuoke.   Source: Wikipedia and ThisDay Newspaper
