Meet The Six Nigerians Set To Feature In The 2022 NFL Super Bowl

 

The National Football League (NFL) stars will be hoping to make history on Monday

On Monday, February 14, 2022, the annual playoff championship game of the American National Football League, the Super Bowl, will be held at the SoFi Stadium in California. The game which serves as the final of the NFL Season is scheduled to hold by 12:30 am (WAT).

Interestingly, six players of Nigerian descent will feature in the clash which will see the Cincinnati Bengals square off against the Los Angeles Rams.

Olumide Larry Ogunjobi

Born in Livingston, New Jersey, on June 3, 1994, Olumide Larry Ogunjobi is the son of a Nigerian immigrant family in the United States. Ogunjobi, 27, is a football defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals. He played college football for the Charlotte of the University of North Carolina and was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

CJ Uzoma

Christopher James Uzomah is a football tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals. Uzomah who was born on January 14, 1993, is of Nigerian descent to parents, Xavier and Stephanie. After college football at Auburn, he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Bengals.

Chidobe Awuzie

Another Nigerian on the rooster of the Cincinnati Bengals is Chidobe Awuzie. Drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Awuzie who played college football in Colorado is the son of Nigerian immigrant parents in the US. He is a cornerback.

Joseph Ossai

Joseph Ossai is the youngest of Nigerians set to play in the Super Bowl on Monday. Born in Lagos, Nigeria on April 13, 2000, his parents moved to the United States in 2010 when he was just 10. After college football at Texas, Ossai made the third round (69^th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft, selected by the Cincinnati Bengals. He plays the defensive end position.

Hakeem Adeniji

The Son of former Nigerian television anchor, Joke Adeniji, Hakeem Adeniji, 24,  is a guard for the Cincinnati Bengals. During his time as a college football player at the University of Kansas, Hakeem on two occasions made the All-Big 12 selection and was part of the 1^st team in 2019 and 2^nd team in 2018. In the 2020 NFL Draft, Hakeem was selected by the Bengals in the sixth round (180^th overall).

Ogbonnia “Obo’’ Okoronkwo

Ogbonnia “Obo’’ Okoronkwo is the only Nigerian on our list who features for the Los Angeles Rams. After college football at Oklahoma, he was selected in the fifth round (160^th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
