The tribe of entrepreneurs who have decided to start and run their businesses without quitting their day jobs is growing. Fuelled by her passion for tasty, healthy meals, insurance underwriter Nnenna Egbuche set up Nenny’s Kitchen to deliver home cooked meals around her city, Lagos. She talks to Connect Nigeria about the challenges and joys of promoting healthy Nigerian food. CN: What exactly are the services your business offers? NE: We cook and package all Nigerian soups and stews into 3 litre bowls at very affordable prices. As a side attraction, we cater for parties and make small chops. CN: Who is your business aimed at? NE: Any individual who loves Nigerian food. And if you don’t like Nigerian food, Nenny’s Kitchen will change your mind. CN: How does it work? What steps do potential customers have to take to get service? NE: You can call or text 0808 986 0037 to place your order for any Nigerian soup or stew with your choice side of chicken, turkey, beef or fish in our 3 litre bowls. CN: Give us a peek into your menu. What kinds of meals do you offer? NE: We offer soups like egusi, okro and efo riro (with chicken, beef, turkey or fish) for N3,000.00, while stews cost N3,500.00. Soups like afang, edikaikong, uha and so on cost N4,000.00 – N4,500.00. CN: What is the most challenging part of your work? NE: You would think the cooking part. (Laughs) But it isn’t. The most challenging part is the clean-up after cooking. CN: What role has the internet played in building your business? NE: The internet has played a huge part. Most of my customers are from the internet. I send out a tweet and when people start to retweet, the feedback is amazing. CN: How do you source clients? NE: We put out ads online, send reminder texts and emails to existing customers and rely on recommendations too. CN: How would you rate customer satisfaction so far? NE: Our customers are highly satisfied. They always come back. They always recommend us to friends and family. Delicious food does wonders. CN: What is your business’ unique selling point? What makes you stand out from the crowd? NE: We try to get a proper insight into the customer, by getting to know our customer well. Allergies, food and spice preferences and so on are discussed with first-time customers. We also provide healthy food for those concerned with weight and fitness. Are you “fitfam”? Nenny’s Kitchen has got you covered. Customers are introduced to new soups by getting a small sample bowl to take home with them. CN: What is your long-term vision for Nenny’s Kitchen? NE: We would love to own outlets across the country, where people can go and pick up their freshly prepared bowls of soup. We look forward to having soup vans too, so that we can drive from house to house, prepare and package the soup in front of the customer.   Contact Nenny’s Kitchen Phone: 0808 986 0037 Click here to contact Nenny’s Kitchen directly   About the writer: Joy Ehonwa is a writer, editor and online proofreader who is passionate about relationships and personal development.
