Arsenal midfielder,
Alexander Iwobi, is now the Most Valuable Nigerian Footballer in Europe, according to the
CIES Football Observatory, for November 2018.
The 22 year old player, who signed a contract extension with the English outfit that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium till June 30, 2022, is now the only Nigerian player abroad worth over €50 million at the time of writing.
Iwobi’s rise as the most valuable Nigerian in Europe is consequent on his reinvention as a regular forward in Unai Emery’s 4-2-3-1 match-crushing formation.
The Hale Academy graduate tops Nigerians on the list with a value of €52.4m, while, vicious attacker,
Wilfred Ndidi’s market value of €79.2m in February 2018, has dropped to €49.8 million. This reduction in Wilfred’s value is due to the long term contract he signed with Leicester City till 2024.
Former Super Eagles forward,
Victor Moses, is the third on the list with a value of €37.4m. Leicester City forward,
Kelechi Iheanacho, worth €17.5m, and Bordeaux youngster Samuel Kalu, worth €8.3m, complete the top five Most Valuable Nigerian Footballers in Europe.
However, in another player rating also released by the CIES, Ndidi is the only Nigerian international within 30% of the 100 point rating, with a score of 74.0, while Iwobi has a rating of 68.7.
