Read more about Marketing
As far as I’m concerned, marketing is communication. Marketing is speaking about what you know so someone can take a specific action. Every day in our different conversations, we are marketing. If you have ever required someone to support your idea, gift, talent, calling, project, thoughts or inspiration, what you said or did to make them form an opinion or take an action concerning your idea is marketing. When Jesus told the first 4 disciples to leave their trade and follow Him, so that he’ll make them fishers of men, He was marketing to them. He made them an offer. And they chose to follow Him. From a global perspective, according to the American Marketing Association, Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. You see, anytime you are actively engaged in creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings and values, you are marketing.

Guess what? On a traditional scale, You do this from when you start to prepare your sermon or message to the final stage of making an altar call at the point of delivery. This should not be different when you use digital media. Every post, content, live streaming service, and book you’ve written are all evidence of marketing engagements. If you realise you have actually been marketing all the whole, then it’s time you start doing it intentionally. To market your ministry intentionally, here are a few things to note:
- Clarify one message at a time.
- Understand the target audience your message is for per time because you are not sent to everyone.
- Speak in a language that your target audience will understand and relate to. This is not about speaking with ambiguity. It is about speaking to be understood. After all, Paul said it is not about the fluency of words but the demonstration of the power of God.
- Allow your personality to show in the style of your message delivery. I always say that your personality is the fastest way to amplify your message. People will connect with your personality before they pay rapt attention to what you are saying.
- Choose your most productive platforms. You don’t have to be everywhere because you are seeking ministry growth. Know where your audience is based (offline or online) and meet them there. The great commission states we should GO. Reaching the right people will take you out of your comfort zone but if your goal is to reach people for transformation then do so. For online audiences, your audience’s most relevant platform will be your primary place for engagement. After Which you can repurpose or distribute the content on other platforms.
