Nigerian forgotten striker, Ayodele Makinwa, has sought the help of world football governing body, FIFA, in his bid to earn compensation from Chinese side, Beijing Baxy.
Makinwa’s two-year contract with the Chinese League One side was prematurely terminated after just a season and he has sent a plea to FIFA to act as a pacifier in the case.
According to BBC Sports, Makinwa is yet to receive an official statement from the club explaining the reason behind the termination of his contract. Speaking to BBC, he said, “The club president told me during our pre-season that the arrival of new sponsors and partners has led to a decision to sign new foreign players”
“There was nothing official, no option of a mutual termination or an indication of what to expect from our conversation, so when it was time to return [after pre-season in Kunming, southwest China], Baxy failed to provide me with necessary documents for my re-entry visa.
“They refused to respond to my warnings and after they shut the door of communication, I filed a complaint to FIFA seeking redress for wrongful termination of my contract,” he added.
Prior to the contract termination, Makinwa had scored 4 goals in 11 matches after joining from Italian side, Carrarese.
Makinwa also played for Lazio, Chievo, Genoa, Palermo, Atalanta and Reggiana. He has 18 international caps with Nigeria and was part of the 2004 and 2006 African Cup of Nations teams.
