Last week, WhatsApp announced the Live location sharing feature which is now seeding to WhatsApp users across the world. The feature allows you to share your location in real-time with your WhatsApp contacts. Unlike the normal location sharing, the live-location allows whoever you’re sharing it with to follow your movements in real time. Whenever you’re hanging out with friends or meeting up with a group of people, Live location sharing is a good way of knowing each person’s whereabouts. It’s also a great way of letting your loved ones know you’re safe, in case of emergencies.
You can choose to share your live location with members of a group chat or with just one contact via an individual chat. You can also stop sharing your live location at any time, or set a time limit at which the live sharing will expire. However, participants in the chat who you shared your live location with will continue to see the initial live location you shared.
You need to turn on Location and give WhatsApp location permission in your phone’s settings before you can use the feature.
To share your live location,
- Open a chat.
- Tap Attach > Location > Share live location.
- Select the length of time you’d like to share your live location. Your live location will expire after the selected amount of time.
- Tap Send.
To stop sharing your live location.
- Open the chat.
- Tap on Stop sharing.
To stop sharing your live location for all chats:
- Open WhatsApp and tap Menu Button > Settings > Account > Privacy > Live location.
- Tap Stop sharing.
Live Location is available on both Android and iOS devices. You can update your app to enjoy the
feature.
