The Movie Deal
The 24-year-old Nigerian-American has secured for her trilogy, Children of Blood and Bone, a seven-figure movie deal. The book, which is a fantasy trilogy, has the new deal with Hollywood’s 20th Century Fox Studios. Fox Studios purchased the movie rights even before the novel had been published. This move shows that the book has boldly secured its prints with the likes of Harry Potter and other fictional characters who have shaped many childhoods. Fox Studios are confident in the writer’s style and are assured that the trilogy will be as successful as Young Adult franchises, Twilight and Maze Runner. The Book
Children of Blood and Bone tells a story of Zélie Adebola, who is in a struggle to bring magic back to Orisha and help fight against a ruthless monarch. Tomi, in her words during an interview with The Guardian describes the story line as that of:“a fisherman’s daughter, Zélie, and an unlikely band of allies and enemies on a quest to reawaken magic in the country of Orïsha… an allegory for the modern black experience.”The book, which was inspired by West African mythology, has gotten a lot of goodwill and reviews from both the literary and film industry. The book explores African folklore, storytelling, and the indigenous Yoruba language. Tomi has joined the league of Nnedi Okafor and Ben Okri in using:
“fantasy to meld personal stories with political themes.”The author took to Twitter after the publication of her book on March 6, 2018, to appreciate those who had been supportive.
