While private organisations in Nigeria have successfully amazed the benefits of having social media presence, the public sector is just warming up in the race. One government parastatal involved in active engagement is the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.  It’s twitter handle @officialefcc has been a buzz in many conversations. They are renowned for tweets’ savagery. Even though many argue that its  language use is not proper for an organisation as that, it has attracted many followers. Many who just want to glean the responses it has in store for each day. EFCC’s twitter motto is “Fostering better relationship, one tweet at a time”.  It recently unveiled a rapper F Shaw as the handler for most of its tweets. It is best to take lessons from this organisation in that area. These lessons are:

Adequate use of Social Media increases Organizational Awareness:

Before the days of F Shaw, all we knew about EFCC was whistle blowing and fight for corruption. Ask anyone on the streets about them, responses vary about the massive clap back interplay on the network. Everyone is excited to read their hilarious tweets.

Participation On Social Media Magnets New Members:

A study of the amazing memes showed that EFCC tweets had a human face. It is not just the eagle face that designs its home page. A lot of people are forced to follow their trends. Hence, they entice new members to the commission. Remember the funny tweets in response to those affected by Ponzi schemes.

It Builds Relationship with Members:

Where else can you get a website that gives you immediate response? It was almost as if the handlers consisted of personnel who never sleept. Almost like an Automated Teller Machine, you get your service response for all your questions 24/7.

Exciting Social Media Presence Inspires Action:

Is there a  better way to get people involved in your products or services, other than being social media savvy? You get to raise support and loyalty from your customers.   When your brand is trusted to deliver on its promises, your customers achieve comfort zone.  EFCC with its motivational quotes, savage replies, and massive retweets among others solicits for massive action with its followers. Now that EFCC has started the trend, #YoungNLegit, NYSC has also joined with its heavy participation.
