Mr. Gbenga Akintola, Executive Chairman, Lagos State Public Works Corporation, has announced that people who indulge in activities causing damage to roads in the state will soon be prosecuted.
The chairman noted that the Corporation was working earnestly with task force agencies to curb activities that lead to environmental damage and to ensure proper sanitation. He pointed out that deliberate monitoring of unscrupulous persons caught in the act of damaging road infrastructure is ongoing and anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the environmental sanitation laws in the state.
Akintola explained that about 1,400 roads have been pegged for maintenance activities in 2014 compared to 988 roads attended to in the previous year. He pointed out that two new 160-tonne per hour asphalt plants in Imota and Badagry would commence the take-off of maintenance activities in the state..
“The modest achievements of yesteryears are considered as mere stepping stones towards covering the gap between where we are and where we want to be. This underlines the new targets set for 2014, which are already on course,” Akintola explained.
