Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has been warned by the World’s football governing body, FIFA, to watch his conduct in future. The former defender turned coach had a spat with the former national team coach of Malawi, Tom Saintfiet ahead of their World Cup qualifier in August. Keshi was infuriated that Saintfiet asked FIFA to move the venue of the fixture away from Calabar, while citing security fears. Keshi responded by calling Saintfiet “a white dude who should go back to Belgium”. The Malawi Football Association (FAM) insisted Keshi’s comments were racist and lodged a formal complaint to FIFA. According to reports, FIFA has cautioned Keshi and said it would “impose sanctions if such incidents happen again”. In a mail to ThisDay Newspaper, a FIFA Spokesperson wrote: “The chairman of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee referred to article 57 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code and requests that Mr Keshi guarantees that incidents of such high gravity do not occur again in the future. If such incidents should happen again, the Fifa Disciplinary Committee will be left with no other option than to impose sanctions against the coach, Mr Stephen Keshi.”
