Erstwhile Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has demanded for $5m (N1.2 billion) as compensation from the country’s football governing body for defamation of character. The 53-year-old former Green Eagles’ captain was sacked from his role by the Nigeria Football Federation, who accused him of applying for the vacant Ivorian coaching job whilst in charge of Nigeria. Despite leading Nigeria to African Cup of Nations glory in 2013, Keshi and the NFF have had a love-hate relationship ever since. The former Malian national team coach has written to the NFF via his lawyers for compensation. He was sacked last month after leading the Super Eagles to a 2-0 victory over Chad as they opened their AFCON 2017 qualifying campaign in Kaduna. He has since been replaced by former team mate, Sunday Oliseh.
