Nollywood veteran turned lawyer, and now politician Kenneth Okonkwo has declared his intention to run for the governorship of  Enugu State at the next General Election. The actor who played Andy in “Living In Bondage”, one of the earliest Nollywood films, declared his candidacy to run against the incumbent who hails from the same zone as himself, citing the incompetence of the present government as his reason. His declaration was made at the weekend during the expanded stakeholders meeting of the APC, Enugu state Chapter, with former governor Sullivan Chime in attendance. In his declaration, he said  “My people made that move, called me and I said God forbid that I will quench your spirit. I said I am going to present myself in line with the wishes of my people for this post to be the governor of Enugu state 2019 and I so present myself. He wrote on his Instagram page on Sunday “I Just declared my intention to contest for the Governorship candidate of APC in Enugu State. It was heartwarming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory” He hopes according to him, to replicate the success of Nollywood, an industry that has been creating jobs for many unemployed Nigerians independent of government if voted into office. It is worth mentioning that the actor-politician, formerly of the PDP pulled out of the 2015 race for the Enugu state house of assembly as a PDP candidate in the primaries after the zoning decision was upturned by the then governor. Kenneth Okonkwo may not have appeared in many movies in a while, but If he succeeds, we might not be seeing him in any movies for even longer.

  • Wow! I like Kenneth Okonkwo a.K.a Andy Okeke a lot.

I am just unhappy he is running under the APC. I’d vote for him, but not as an APC candidate.

  • With great joy in my heart, I say a big CONGRATULATIONS in advance to my very own best nollywood actor for this wonderful move. You certainly have my vote and will definitely win if God approve of it. We will keep praying for you sir, God bless you
