On Monday, the 3rd of June, 2013 a team of Kaymu staff visited the Lagos State Motherless Babies Home in Lion’s Village, Lekki Phase 1 to present the first proceeds from the Kaymu Celebrity Charity Auctions.
Kaymu Celebrity Charity Auctions is the first online celebrity charity auction to be held in Nigeria and has been running now since March 2013. Popular Nigerian celebrities such as 2Face Idibia, DJ Caise, Kate Henshaw, Lynnxx, Basket Mouth, DJ Obi, Eku Edewor, Burna Boy, DRB and a lot more in the pipeline are participating to help make this initiative possible by donating their belongings, majorly clothing, to be auctioned publicly online on Kaymu for their fans and Nigerians to bid for them.
The 1st proceeds from this initiative- N57,000 — has been presented to the Lagos State Motherless Babies Home to cover the cost of making new tiger nets for the kids dormitory. This is one of the ongoing repairs and maintenance projects Kaymu is raising funds to support through this initiative.
The money raised so far was from the auctioned items of 4 celebrities;
- DJ Caise who donated a Choc Boiz T-shirt, Beats by Dr. Dre headphone and a Jacket from Okunoren Twins
- Eku Edewor who donated a dress by Three Floor
- DJ Obi who donated another Beats by Dr. Dre studio headphone
- 2Face Idibia who donated his traditional wedding cap. [Proceeds from his traditional wedding shoes and his Indigo concert outfit are yet to be received from the auction winners]
According to the Matron-In-Charge, Mrs. Oguntoyinbo Ronke, in her appreciation statement,
“
I didn’t know what the outcome of the initiative would be considering that it was the first of its kind in Nigeria. But when we were presented with the idea, we had to give it a try and today we are glad we did. This is a new form of charity donations and we are happy to be the first beneficiaries. Thank you Kaymu, thanks to the celebrities who have participated and thanks to those Nigerians who bid to make a difference!”
