Movie stars around the globe turn their attention to Africa as the 2014 nominees for the Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, were announced Wednesday 2nd April 2014 at the Emperor Place Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Noticeable in this year’s AMAA nomination list is the reduced number of nominations from Nigeria.
New actor and African Magic Viewers Choice Awards’ best actor, Tope Tedela got nominated for Young/Promising Actor alongside Evelyn Galle Ansah, Petronella Tshuma, Kitty Phillips and Shawn Faqua.
For 2014 Best Film, Children of Troumaron – Mauritius; Potomanto – Ghana; The Forgotten Kingdom – South Africa; Of Good Report – South Africa and Accident – Nigeria were all nominated.
At the best documentary category, Nigeria got two nominations: Daughters of the Niger Delta and Potraits of a Lone Farmer. Others are The Sand Fishers from Mali, Kushaya Ingagasi from South Africa and Sincerely Ethiopia from Ethiopia.
Popular Nigerian actors, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Joseph Benjamin battle for Best Actor in a Leading Role alongside Zengo Ngqobe, Mothusi Magano, Adjatey Annan and Ghana’s Majid Michel.
