The Portuguese tactician made this disclosure while speaking with the media after his first training session with the Super Eagles in Dallas, the United States on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Nigeria is billed to face the Mexican national team in an international friendly game on Sunday, May 29 at the AT &T Stadium, before confronting Ecuador in another friendly on Friday, June 3 at the Red Bull Arena, Harrison.

Peseiro hailed the camaraderie spirit in the team despite the players travelling from distant countries after the end of the 2021/2022 season.
“It’s a pleasure for me to start work with the national team. The training was good. We want to win the next AFCON and this is the first step towards achieving that,”
the former Real Madrid assistant coach told the media team of the Super Eagles.
“The boys were tired because of the long trip, but they showed great enthusiasm and motivation. They trained with happiness. This is the first step to reach the next AFCON. We want to win even though it is in 2023. It is important that we start to improve our spirit,”
Peseiro concluded.
After the friendly games, Nigeria will commence the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a home clash against the Lone Stars of Sierra Leone on June 9, 2022, before a second away game against Mauritius on June 13.
