John Terry was in Nigeria for a Budweiser novelty match and took time out during an interview with Punch Sports Extra to hail the quality of the Nigerian former professionals. Terry went on to say that Kanu and Okocha who he likened to Brazilian footballers, displayed their skills with so much flair and made it difficult for opponents to track them down on the field of play.
“One of the first Nigerians I played against was Kanu, he had this way he used to drag the ball. As a defender, you always knew what he would do, but he was always very difficult to mark, you wouldn’t know who to stop him. Just like Brazilians, Nigerian players are very skilful, unlike English players. Kanu and Okocha were some of the most skilful players in the English Premier League, they played with flair and were difficult to stop.” John Terry
