Biodun Stephen is set for the premiere of her new faith-based movie titled, “Joba”.

The filmmaker, best known for romantic drama and comedy films, was nominated twice at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards for her film “The Visit”, took home two awards at the 2017 Best of Nollywood Awards for “Picture Perfect”, and was nominated for Director of the Year at the 2018 City People Movie Awards “Tiwa’s Baggage”.

She also directed “Seven and a Half Dates” and “The Ghost and the Tout”, which made impressive cinema runs in 2018 with critical acclaim.

“Joba” is a far cry from the romantic comedy that has been Stephen’s specialty over the years. It is a very emotional tale of a couple whose faith is tried by their inability to have children. The man struggles to protect his suicidal wife, while fighting to keep faith in the face of pain and disappointment, even so as he is perceived culpable for their childlessness. It stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Enado Odigie, Ronke Ojo, Chris Ihuewa, and Christine Osifuye.

Stephen says this is a divine project owing to how the inspiration and the resources for the film came:

“I’m very excited and happy about the movie because it’s a very special movie for me. I will say the project is divine. I listened to a song featuring Tope Alabi and I must have listened to the song over 52 times while driving and when I got home, I knew I had to write something about it.”

— Stephens

The movie, inspired by Tope Alabi’s “Jesu Joba” was written, directed and produced by Biodun Stephens, and is expected in cinemas on Friday 5th April 2019
