Some of Nigeria’s music stars including Tuface, Iyanya, D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Davido, and Wizkid have bagged nominations at the 2014 World Music Awards in various categories. With the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) providing the organizers with the names of best-selling artists from all major territories, the World Music Awards, which is regarded as the best music awards because of its transparency, will honour the best-selling recording artistes from every continent. The World Music Awards are presented on sales merit and voted by the public on the Internet as there is no jury involved. The world’s best-selling recording-artistes in each category are determined by a thorough inquiry conducted by the organizers which includes sales figures and record certification in 2013. Kukere master, Iyanya, leads with six nominations for his hit singles ‘Away’ and ‘Le Kwa Ukwu’, which were nominated at the Best African World Best Song of the Year. Tiwa Savage, Waje and Seyi Shay are the female artistes who got nominated. Timaya was nominated courtesy of the the re-make of his ‘Shake Yur Bum’ by Caribbean’s Michael Montana as D’Banj got nominated for his ‘Oliver Twist’ hit. Femi Kuti, the Afro Beat king’s latest album, ‘No Place For My Dream’ and Waje’s ‘W.A.J.E’ were nominated for the Best Album category. Other Nigerian artistes who got nominations are Davido, Wizkid, Banky W, P-Square, Olamide, Mode9, Dr. Sid, Davido, 2Face Idibia, Darey, Ice Prince and KCee. Awards for World’s Best Male Artist, Best Female, Best Group, Best Electronic Dance Music Artiste, Best Entertainer of the Year, Best Live Act, Best Song, Best Album and Best Video are voted online by the general public.
