In June, the player was ranked 22nd in the World, but in the latest ranking released on Monday, Aruna has succeeded in replicating his January feat that saw him become the first ever Nigerian tennis player to break into the ITTF top 20 World Ranking. Aruna accrued a total of 10234 points, leading former Africa’s top ranked player, Assar with one point at 10233. The Egyptian dropped four spots from 17th to the 21st position in Monday’s ranking. For the first time in his career, China’s Fan Zhendong retained the number one position in the world for the fourth consecutive month. Timo Boll currently occupies the second position in the ranking, climbing two spots up; Lin Gaoyuan moved two spots up to occupy third place. Dimitrij Ovtcharov is in fourth and Zhang Jike completes the top five World best players. In a rather sad turn of events Zhendong’s countryman, Ma Long, who is the reigning Olympic and World Champion, has dropped from No. 2 to the 6th position, becoming the fourth highest ranked player from the People’s Republic of China.
