The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Twitter have struck a deal for the 2018 ITTF Nigeria Open to be live-streamed on twitter.
Twitter and the ITTF for Wednesday, finalized the details of the deal which involved the live-streaming of of the ITTF’s 2018 Challenge Series events. This agreement came as a result of the massive turnout of over 200,000 viewers the Slovenia Open received on twitter.
ITTF Challenge Series
In an inside-scoop statement to TheCable, the ITTF said Twitter will provide additional premium highlights from each tournament to viewers.
Twitter’s south-east Asia head of sports partnership, Maurizio Barberi, told the media about the growing love for the sports that twitter users have developed over time, and how it has affected the industry:
“Twitter is where the world of sport is happening every single day, and we know from the conversations on Twitter that there is a growing appetite for elite table tennis… Live-streaming the ITTF Challenge Series events on Twitter makes it easier than ever for existing fans to watch the players in the world go head-to-head, while also exposing the sport to an entirely new audience to help increase the growing popularity of table tennis.”
The head of media at the ITTF, Matthew Pound, spoke on the opportunity that this partnership will bring for the body’s current streaming platform, connecting fans to the very attractive sport of table tennis:
“Twitter will provide the perfect platform to complement ITTF’s current streaming platform itTV and introduce new fans to the sport of table tennis.”
