At the start of the second round, Costa had been inflicted with bruises up and down his lower half as the Nigerian was out for some serious fighting business. An impressed Adesanya had spent months preparing for the fight against the man which he has made public his dislike for. Saturday night’s victory now leaves Adesanya at 20-0 making the President of the UFC, Dana White, hail him for his unique style. Quizzed about the possibility of Adesanya becoming the next Anderson Silva of the division, White noted:
‘I think he’s gonna be the new Adesanya of the division. He’s got his own style and his own way about him. I think he’s gonna be the next big superstar here, especially after tonight’s performance.’ Dana White

It will be recalled that the Nigerian came under heavy criticism for what pundits deemed a sluggish affair in his title defence against Yoel Romero, but the victory over Costa and the style employed by Adesanya has silenced critics. Adesanya has made clear his intention to fight Jared Cannonier if he beats Robert Whittaker as he aims towards clearing out the middleweight division.
