Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, declared May 3rd as a holiday on behalf of the government through an official statement signed by Shuaib Belgore, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and made public on Thursday, April 29, 2021. In the statement, Aregbesola congratulated Nigerians for witnessing the celebration of Workers’ Day in 2021 and hailed their patience, understanding and cooperation towards programmes and policies of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in ensuring Nigeria attains the next level of socio-economic growth and development.

Commenting further, the minister urged Nigerian Workers and Labour Unions to be more dedicated and patriotic in the discharge of their duties, opining that the problem of insecurity which has dealt a great deal on the nation’s economy will soon end owing to efforts put in by the government towards tackling the issue. Part of the statement reads:
‘Government is putting all strategies in place to curb the challenges of insecurity in the country. I, therefore, call on the Labour Force and all patriotic citizens to be fully committed to the task of putting insecurity to a permanent end as much as possible.
