It will be recalled that earlier on Thursday, December 17, protesters marched through the streets of Katsina demanding government’s action towards securing the release of the boys under the banner #BringBackOurBoys. The protest would receive a huge boast online as it trended on Twitter, similar to what happened in 2014 when over 200 schoolgirls were abducted in Chibok. Reacting to the news, President Muhammadu Buhari in a tweet welcomed the release of the boys and reemphasized his government’s commitment towards security of lives and properties.
‘I welcome the release of the kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara. This is a huge relief to the entire country & international community. The entire country is grateful to Governor Masari, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military and the Police Force…Our administration is fully aware of the responsibility we have to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. I ask Nigerians to be patient and fair to us as we deal with the challenges of security, the economy, and corruption. We will not relent.’ President Muhammadu BuhariSources: Guardian NG Featured Image Source: Vanguard News
