Odion Ighalo’s strike against LASK in the Europa League has seen the ex-Super Eagles star emerge winner of Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for March, 2020. Ighalo struck the net twice in the encounter but it was his sparkling first effort that was talk of town after the match. Details from Manchester United’s official website revealed that the Nigerian pulled a total of 32% of votes cast by fans of the English League side to emerge winner.

Ighalo’s strike beat off competition from Scott McTominay’s late strike in the Manchester derby which pulled 26% of votes cast, and Bruno Fernandes’s open play strike in the English Premier League against Everton, which placed third in the poll with 16% of votes. It will be recalled that the goal which won Ighalo the award, including an assist by the Nigerian for Daniel James in the same encounter saw him earn a place in the Europa League Team of the Week. Ighalo’s impressive performance in the game saw him earn praises from former Manchester United midfelder, Owen Hargreaves, who described his award-winning strike as beautiful.

With this award, Ighalo now becomes Manchester United’s eight different Goal of the Month award winner in the 2019/2020 season, and the first to win the prize with a goal from the Europa League.
