As part of a plan to tackle unemployment and poverty in the country, particularly among young people, the government came up with an initiative to empower citizens under 45 and furthermore enable them to become part of the solution through a programme called YouWin. The Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (You WiN!) Programme is a collaboration of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Communication Technology (CT), the Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development which launches an annual Business Plan Competition (BPC) for aspiring young entrepreneurs in Nigeria, in line with the Federal Government’s drive to create more jobs for Nigerians. Selected candidates are awarded with a grant of N10m. Ibrahim Raji, an Engineer who traveled to Singapore after secondary school and recently came back to Nigeria tells his story and gives his testimony about how the programme has impacted his life. The programme has putatively provided over 26,000 jobs and impacted many Nigerians’ lives since its launch in 2011.
