We get it, your boss is a pain in the nether regions, you can endure that, but today,
HR is a different shade of patronising and you want nothing more than to hit someone’s head to oblivion. We understand, having a
tough workday happens once in a while for every employee and also for people who run their own companies.

The problem usually comes when the day is over but the brain cells are still active and stressed out from the rough day. Many times, if these issues are not resolved, they can lead to poor work performance and even serious health conditions. It is great to work hard but it’s more important to find a way to decompress after a demanding workweek.
Here are a few ways to put a pause and refresh from the nasty aftermath of a tough workday.
-
Take A Breather
Before you do anything, first make sure you are calm. Many would ask that you first find a place to vent but the best action to take is no action at all. This is because your brain needs time to process and analyse what just happened and why it happened.
Take a step out on your drive home, to your backyard or an open garden and just take deep breaths. This helps take the focus away from the frame so that you can look more widely at the picture and pick a lesson or two.
-
Talk To A Friend
Pick up your phone and talk to a friend. No, don’t just chat them up. Have actual conversations. This is because most tough days at work comes from uncomfortable strife between colleagues and an unethical tone of voice. To anchor yourself and rewire your brain to see conversations as harmless, you would have to have a better quality of conversation with a friend that you can be absolutely yourself with.

Treat Yourself
After you have taken the time to take a breather, talked to your friend and your serotine levels are normal, now you can treat yourself to whatever food you need (in healthy quantities) without turning it into a coping mechanism. It would be wrong to use treats as comfort foods because work stress is inevitable and the continuous use of “comfort foods” can lead to depression and obesity.
- Cuddles
Either your partner or a pet, physical touch has been proven to be a great stress reliever as
studies have shown that an average human being needs about 12 hugs a day to function at optimum levels. It’s alright if the cuddles lead up to a passionate roll in the hay so long as your spouse is sensitive enough to listen to your 3hr vent.
Staff from various organisations are less and less productive at work simply because the alarming rate of stress levels are not addressed. Ensure you take out some time today to decompress the stress, the refresh button can be refreshing.
