How To Leave Your Comfort Zone

The Comfort zone is the archenemy of success and fulfillment. The only time you can make meaningful progress and clench your dreams is when you leave your comfort zone. However, leaving the comfort zone is difficult. The body itself loves pleasure, and ease, and hates to do the hard work. Our brains are naturally wired to avoid what would stretch us. Yet, our minds and bodies need to be stretched if indeed we are going to be the best version of ourselves. Unfortunately, our bodies are familiar with the absence of stress or tension, which are the defining hallmarks of being within our unique comfort zone. In this article, I will show you how to get out of your comfort zone and your journey towards success and become the best version of yourself.

Starting one step at a time by starting something new will help you leave your comfort zone. It might not be a huge project, but starting something new like choosing to exercise your body for 15 minutes for 21 days can make you better than you were yesterday. The only challenge is being committed to new tasks. By overcoming smaller tasks, you can go for bigger ones such as learning a new language or start journaling your thoughts. Doing these can change your life pattern overnight. Most people make the mistake of trying to start big, whereas, you can effect big changes in your life if you haven’t effected changes in the small areas of your life. Coming out of your comfort zone will require you to follow Mel Robbins’ theory of “The Five-Second Rule.”  It practically subscribes to taking action instantly once you’ve decided on something that you want to do or achieve.  Being action-oriented is crucial to following through on a commitment that we’ve made to ourselves.  Take that first step as instantly as possible toward your new commitment. You have the next five seconds to do it. If it exceeds 5 seconds, you have a high tendency to procrastinate. Make that action something that is directed squarely toward those fears or moments of hesitation.

One of America’s finest statesmen, Benjamin Franklin, rightly said “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” Procrastination is fatal to us achieving success.  It contends on staying in our comfort zone for now but convinces us that at a later date, we really will move forward and achieve what we’ve promised ourselves. This is a big lie. Procrastination is a killer of dreams, hence, you must kill it.  How can you kill procrastination?
