Nasal congestion is one of the most common and sometimes, embarrassing things that can happen to anyone. Imagine waking up with a running nose, when you have a previous appointment to meet, you’ll feel very uneasy throughout that engagement. This condition is rather almost never serious, and some people can develop nasal congestion from time to time, without any lasting after effects. Nasal congestion can develop when the blood vessels inside the nose become roiled, and the nasal tissues swell. Excess mucus drainage may also occur with a stuffy nose.

Cold (viral infection) Allergies Irritations (from something inhaled) Pregnancy Atrophic rhinitis(occurs when there is thinning and hardening of the mucous membranes inside the nose. The thinning tissues make it easier for bacteria to grow and lead to an infection). In addition to sneezing and mucus dripping out of the nostrils, other symptoms that can accompany nasal congestion include; green mucus draining from the nose, facial pain, pain in the ear, headache, fever, coughing and chest tightness. There are home remedies or medications available to treat this and make you feel better in no time. Nonetheless, I’d symptoms persist after 10 days, I suggest you see a doctor ASAP!.

Treatment

According to WebMD, when our heads fill with fluid and blockages are created, affecting our breathing, hearing, and mental clarity, it all begins in the nose. The first thing you need to do is to avoid forcing all the mucus out of your nose,  this is because they’re lubricants and your nose needs them. According to Medical News today, there are other ways to get rid of a stuffy nose.
  • Inhale Steam/Taking a Shower
Taking a hot shower can help decrease nasal congestion. Although this will only give you temporary relief, because that steam from the water will help mucus drain out of your nose. it is quite efficient.
  • Try a saline spray
Saline-only sprays do not have any medical additives, so they are usually safe to use on your nose. This will help reduce the inflammation in your nostrils.
  • Flush out the sinuses
Devices like Neti pots have been around for a while now, as they are white efficient in removing the mucus from each nostril. Make sure to use previously boiled water that has cooled down, to avoid bacterial infections.
  • Apply a warm compress

I think this is the most popular of all home remedies to try. You can also add fresh sliced ginger to the hot water, before you wet the cloth with it.
  • Try eucalyptus oil
From the Medical News today, Eucalyptus oil is made from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. Inhaling the oil will make for ease of draining of the mucus in your nose.
  • Take allergy medicine

When a stuffy nose is due to an allergy, taking an allergy medication will stop it.
  • Use a decongestant
Decongestants are available in nasal spray and pill form. The work by causing the blood vessels in the nose to narrow, which decreases swelling and reduces stuffiness.
  • Use a humidifier.
Like inhaling steam or taking a hot shower, that works just fine and can be a lasting effect when you keep inhaling the warm air from the humidifier.
  • Hydration
This is very important. When you’re well hydrated, it thins the mucus of nostrils and pushes the fluid from the nose, decreasing pressure in the sinuses.
