No fewer than 20 highly talented boxers were discovered at the 4th edition of the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search staged in Abeokuta last week.

The 3-day boxing event which began on Thursday, witnessed its highest turn out since its inception — over 150 participants were present from all across Nigeria. However, only about 15% of this number were selected and unveiled at the closing ceremony held at Dunkin Pepper Gym, MKO Abiola International Stadium.

Adeyemi Elijah emerged the best boxer of the competition, while following closely with great boxing qualities also were Akintayo Aminu and Shogbanmu Waheed. All three winners received GOtv decoders for their impeccable performances.

Speaking at the event, Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director, Flykite Productions, told the media that the competition which is aimed at discovering Nigeria’s hidden boxing talents was designed as a beacon of hope to the many Nigerian youths roaming the streets without a source of income.

Alumona added that Flykite Productions is looking into setting up a training camp for long-term improvement and training of selected boxers, however, he advised boxers who did not make the cut to see their rejection as an opportunity to get better at the game.

Boxers selected at the programme will have their boxing licences and pre-licensing medical examination paid for by the sponsors. The selected boxers will make their professional debut at the next edition of GOtv Boxing Night.
