Google has announced its
Africa Scholarship Program in partnership with
Andela and
Udacity to provide
15,000 scholarships for aspiring developers in Africa. It will serve as a platform where people who wish to pursue a career in software development can begin their journey, and also help newbie developers grow their skills.
Africa Scholarship Program
The scholarship is available in two tracks –
Web development and
Android Development for both beginners and intermediate learners. Beginners do not need any coding experience; intermediate learners you need some basic knowledge.
The initial scholarship program will run for two months starting
May 8th 2018. 500 high performing learners will be awarded a follow-up
Nanodegree scholarship after the initial 2-month program. This will grant them an additional 6-months to complete the Nanodegree program.
Eligibility
All participants must be residents of a country in
Africa and be at least
18 years of age. When applying, applicants will choose between web development and Android development. Once accepted, participants are placed in one of two tracks (beginner or intermediate), depending on theirskill level as stated in the application form.
Mode
The program takes place 100% online, so participants need a PC and stable internet connection. There will also be in-person meet-ups with scholarship coursemates within the participant’s city of residence. Meetups are facilitated by the Andela Learning Community.
