Day 1 of the 2017 All Nigeria Track and Field Championships (ANT&FC) in Abuja, was just another opportunity for Nigerian long jump queen,
Ese Brume, to exercise her dominance on the field.
Brume, who was at the time the reigning Commonwealth and African Long Jump Gold medalists, shrugged off every doubt in her ability when she effortlessly defended her 2016 title at the 2017 ANT&FC.
The Nigerian leaped a distance of 6.40m, 5cm shy of her winning jump in 2016 to hold on to her crown. Brume put a distance of about half a meter between her and Maria Thompson, who made second place with a leap of 5.92m. While Patience Okoronkwo placed third with a jump of 5.91m.
Brume was Nigeria’s best Track and Field athlete at the
2016 Rio Olympics where she made it into the final round in her first outing at the Games.
Following her heroics for Nigeria in previous years, the Nigerian looked forward to a successful outing for the nation at the 2017 International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) World Championships, in London. However, sadly Brume could not replicate any of her medal winning jumps for Nigeria at the championships.
In May 2018, Brume made a thrilling return to her winning ways at the Jamaica International Invitational, leaping to a Meeting Record (MR) and Season’s Best (SB) of 6.82m to win the women’s Long Jump event in Kingston.
