Nigeria’s U-17 male team Golden Eaglets kicked off their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over their American counterparts at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez in Santiago, Chile. Nigeria, led by former Super Eagles midfielder Emmanuel Amuneke, started the game in scintillating fashion with 60% of the ball possession and 9 shots on target but couldn’t break down the American defence and went into break goalless. However, Nigeria took the lead just five minutes after the restart. Chukwudi Agor pounced on a loose ball to score Nigeria’s first goal of the game and first goal at the U-17 World Cup. Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s lead just after the hour mark. He recieved a good pass from midfield before slotting the ball home with his left foot. With this win, Nigeria top Group A with three points and will tackle hosts Chile on Wednesday morning at the Estadio Sausalito, Vina Del. Nigeria have won the U-17 World Cup four times (1985, 1993, 2007, 2013) and finished runners up three times (1987, 2001, 2009).     Photo Credit: PremiumTimesng.com
