Globacom is back as the title sponsor of the Nigerian Professional Football League, after signing a new N1.9 billion three-year deal, with the League Management Company (LMC). Globacom, a leading telecommunications network provider in Nigeria and supporter of sports in Nigeria is looking at giving the League further lift — within the continent and around the world.
The Chief Operating Officer of Globacom, Mohammed Jameel expounded on these saying, “Today, we are witnessing the appointment of Globacom as the title sponsor of the Glo Premier League. We thank the Honourable Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdulah, for his efforts to resolve all the issues surrounding the league title sponsorship. We also thank members of the League Management Company (LMC) for all the significant strides they are making to develop the Nigerian professional football league. Our business as title sponsor is to support the league to move forward and we believe that the right people are in-charge of the League Management Company.”
The Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC) Nduka Irabor, at the deal signing ceremony held at Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island Lagos, also said, “Our football is worth more than what it is today. It was devalued because of lack of transparency and we in the League Management Company are striving to ensure that we hand over a structure to those coming to run our football. We are just scratching the surface of the business yet, It is worth far bigger.”
“We are hoping that in few months or years from now, Nigerians will begin to see the effect of what the LMC has just started in the business of how football is properly managed,” he said.
