There has been a new development in the ongoing fuel subsidy situation responsible for queues at fuel pumps across the country. According to a news report by The Nation, fuel subsidy claims included in the 2015 Supplementary Budget, which was recently presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari has officially risen from N413 billion to N521 billion.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Jamila Soara, representing the Minister for State, Dr. Emmanuel I. Kachikwu, reportedly stated a need for an additional N108 billion to be included to cover fuel subsidy between October and December. This was made known to the Senate Committee on Appropriation responsible for the Supplementary Budget.
The initial claim of N413 billion only covered outstanding claims from 2014 and the period between January and September
