Breast cancer refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast (mammary gland).
Over time, cancer cells can invade healthy breast tissue and make their way into lymph nodes located in the underarm lymph nodes. Once cancer gets into the lymph nodes, it possesses potentials to spread to other body parts with breast glands in the highest proximity. Though cancer is also genetic, only about 5-10% of cancers are due to an abnormality inherited from parents. About 90% of breast cancers are sometimes linked to substances that put a stress on the body’s system, and the body’s aging process.
Though chemotherapy might be difficult to sustain and most cancer cases remain unresolved, the fight against cancer can be won by detecting the tumor before it starts to spread. This calls for the need to regularly self-examine and undergo breast screening exercises.
Come May 21st, Skye Bank, in partnership with C.O.P.E, will be sponsoring Skye Pearls (an initiative to empower Nigerian women on how to pursue their passion and enhance their lives) for free cancer screening.
