Nigeria will be looking to re-establish dominance in age-grade African tournaments when hostilities commence in Egypt next year.
Nigerian national U-20 men’s football team, the Flying Eagles, have qualified for the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations set to hold in Egypt. The Nigerian side booked qualification for the continental showpiece which will determine Africa’s representatives at the next FIFA U-20 World Cup after beating the Ivoirian national team 2-1 in the semi-final of the WAFU Zone B tournament currently held in Niger.

Nigeria took the lead through a Daniel Daga strike in the first half. The Ivoirians would equalize before the break and would hang on tightly to send the game into extra time as both teams failed to score a second goal. Ibrahim Yahaya would convert a penalty in extra time to send Nigeria to the final of the tournament against Benin Republic who beat Burkina Faso 2-1 on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, to book a place in the final scheduled to hold on Friday, May 20.

Ladan Bosso and his boys alongside the Benin team have qualified for the U-20 Nations Cup in Egypt and will be playing for pride when both sides clash. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt will see the top four teams pick the tickets for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated to hold in Indonesia next year. Nigeria will be hoping to make it to the global showpiece in Asia after missing out on the previous edition.
