Nigeria’s woes at the FIFA World Cup are yet to come to an end as the nation’s U-20 team have crashed out of the FIFA World Cup in Poland.
The Flying Eagles were handed a lucky spot in the knockout stages of the tournament after they finished as as one of the four best third-placed teams in the group stage.
However, the Eagles have failed to make it through the round, after falling to fellow Africans, Senegal, who won the game 2-1 at the Lodz Stadium.
Play by play
One would have thought the technical head of the team would have paid more attention to the team’s tactical formation and strategy after their lackluster performance against Ukraine in their final group game, but that wasn’t the case as the Nigerian team still came into the game without a clear play design.
Senegal took the lead 36 minutes into the encounter, thanks to forward Amadou Sagna’s low right footed effort.
In the final minutes of the first half, the Lions of Teranga, doubled their lead following a brilliant show from Ibrahima Niane.
The Eagles came out guns blazing in the second half, and their effort yielded a goal within five minutes of the restart whistle.
Success Makanjoula sent a perfect cross that met Aniekeme Okon, who quickly slot the ball home.
The Eagles tried all they could to equalize the game, but the Senegalese were hellbent on making it into the next round.
The final minutes of the encounter saw both sides play their best, but the Eagles could not make good on any of their efforts as Senegal claimed the well deserved win, and have now proceeded to the quarter final of the tournament.
