You deserve all the good things. Yes, you do.

Now, we know Nigeria has a lot of work to get done – with our current economic climate and political tensions – but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to have a good time (on a budget).

We’ve compiled five easy ways to pamper yourself this Christmas.

Watch a movie

You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg taking yourself out to the cinema. Take advantage of the deals cinemas like FilmHouse have on weekdays and see a movie for as low as ₦800.

Mani-Pedi

A lot of people think taking time out to get your finger and toe nails groomed is “for women”. This is a misconception. Everyone should get their nails trimmed and pampered once in a while. There are many salons that do this for as little at ₦1,000.

Try Something New

This could be going to a part of town you’ve never been to. Now, we’re trying to save money, so we aren’t necessarily talking about leaving town or going on a road trip.  You can go somewhere new within your locale. A mall you’ve never been to. An event you heard about.

Studies have shown that new, pleasurable experiences positively affect the brain:

“The hippocampus, which is a region of the brain associated with memories, learning and emotions, has been found to continue to create new cells into old age.” — Milton Lum

Be sure to try something new this season.

Eat, please, eat

Christmas has always been about eating (at least for some of us). And, as we say, “Everyone get their level.” So, if forking out the money for a couple kilos of chicken or turkey this Christmas just might leave you bankrupt, find your own level. But please do eat.

Our fitness contributor might disagree, but you can continue counting the calories after Christmas!

Sleep

Sleep.

It’s free. Close your eyes and catch a nap.

Do you know that sleep helps repair your heart and blood vessels? And that sleep deprivation puts you at risk of cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure?

The world isn’t running away. It will still be here when you wake up. Give yourself a break.

Just sleep.
