The Flying Eagles returned to their winning ways at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey on Monday. John Obuh’s boys breezed past the Cubans, running out 3-0 winners in their second group game to keep their hopes of qualifying for the next stage alive. The win takes them to third place in Group B and they will have to defeat the Koreans in the final game today by 3pm to book their passage to the last 16. Group B after 2 matches Portugal – 4 pts South Korea – 4 pts Nigeria – 3 pts Cuba – 0 pts Captain Abdul Ajagun scored his third goal of the competition in the win against Cuba. Aminu Umar completed the rout with a brace. The Flying Eagles opened the scoring when Olarenwaju Kayode fed Umar for an easy tap-in with 19 minutes gone. Four minutes later, Abdullahi Shehu drilled a cross which Umar flicked between his legs for a clever strike. Victory was completed in the 67th minute when Kingsley Madu’s cross was headed home by Ajagun. In Monday’s other Group B game, Nigeria’s conquerors in the first game, Portugal had to settle for a 2-2 draw with South Korea.
