The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), has revealed the punches for unruly fans behavior during a game.
FIFA wants teams to automatically forfeit a match if their supporters are found guilty of perpetrating racial offenses or unruly conduct.
Over the years, FIFA and other football bodies across the world have had to deal with the issues of racist attacks amongst rival teams across different divisions.
In extreme cases, matches were put on hold or moved to safer locations to avoid casualties.
In one similar case in Nigeria, the military had to intervene to keep the traveling side safe after they had defeated the home team.
The world football governing body has to find a way to curb the racist attacks and other forms of misconduct that could potentially put the lives of players and fans alike at risk.
In a recent move, FIFA has updated its Disciplinary Code which mandates the defaulting side to forfeit the match in the event that the referee walks out of the pitch.
“Unless there are exceptional circumstances, if a match is abandoned by the referee because of racist and/or discriminatory conduct, the match shall be declared forfeited.”
— FIFA
The defaulting team will forfeit the game after the referee has applied the “three-step procedure” for such cases. These include first, requesting a public announcement to call for any such behavior to cease, suspending the match until it stops, and finally, abandoning the match altogether.
According to the Disciplinary Code, discriminatory behavior is anything that ranges from attacks on race, skin color, ethnic, national or social origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, language, religion, political opinion, wealth, birth or any other status or person.”
The Disciplinary Code only applies to official FIFA competitions, including the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
