The Super Eagles have experienced a dominant surge in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, and are now the third best team on the African continent.
Nigeria was formerly ranked 46th in the world, but have moved up four places in the recent ranking, now 42nd with 1435 points.
The three-time African champions exercised game dominance over their African counterparts, Seychelles and Egypt, in the last international window, which gave them the much needed boost.
Senegal currently occupy the top position in Africa with 1515 points, while Tunisia is a close second with 1491 points.
Morocco, 4th, and DR Congo, 5th, complete the top five positions for Africa.
The biggest mover on the African ranking was Tanzania (1087 to 1105, up 6). The Tanzanian team is coached by Nigerian Emmanuel Amuneke.
Amuneke helped Tanzania book their first ticket to the African Cup of Nations, after 39 years of away from the continental championships.
In the global ranking, the first three remained unchanged.
Belgium maintained a stiff lead over 2018 World Cup winner, France, increasing the gap by 3 points.
Brazil, 3rd, have a 29 point lead over England, currently in 4th and rising fast.
World Cup finalist, Croatia, suffered a decline, down 1, and are battling to keep their place with Uruguay barely 8 points behind them.
Portugal also suffered a decline, now 7th, down 1, while Switzerland who maintain their place are only 3 points behind the Southern Europeans.
Spain and Denmark maintained their place on the list, 9th and 10th respectively, and make up the world’s top 10 teams.
