Fidelity Bank Plc has unveiled a scholarship savings scheme themed, ‘Save 4 Scholarship’ to help the educational demands of its customers. The bank set aside the sum of N80 million which is payable over a period of five years and a total of 200 winners are expected to be beneficiaries of the fund throughout the duration of the promo.
Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Fidelity Bank made it known at the event to unveil the promo in Lagos that this development was another way to affirm the bank’s support of the cashless policy of the CBN. He explained, “We affirm our commitment to developing products that contribute to the general wellbeing of the society in which we operate. It is also part of the new direction of Fidelity Bank that is anchored on innovation. At Fidelity Bank, we are not in business to follow the crowd and that is the essence of this initiative. We are aware that some are out of school, not because they are not intelligent or because they have a lack of will to go to school, but as a result of the challenges of the cost of bills associated with school.”
He noted that beside the growing awareness of the need to have a savings culture, the initiative is a veritable instrument to advancing the quest for financial inclusion in the country.
Mrs. Chijioke Ugochukwu, Executive Director, Shared Services, Fidelity Bank said that the ‘Save 4 Scholarship’ savings promo is the fifth of campaigns the bank has undertaken in recent times. She said, “This is our most important and most contributory promo so far. This promo is our unique contribution to the development of education which is the most basic of human aspirations.”
According to her, high cost is making education appear to be an elite privilege. She stated that education all over the world should be made available to people in every level of society. She stated, “The Fidelity promo is a unique one. We shall be giving out scholarship packages and gift items to support the educational aspiration of our customers. When we are talking about education, we are talking about everything – catering school, university, polytechnic, and apprenticeship etc.”
