change of plans
Contrary to prior plans made by the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), D’Tigers will now begin camp for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers on June 19 in Lagos under the supervision of head coach, Alex Nwora.
The team was supposed to camp in Buffalo, United States, but after much deliberation, looking at the facts and resources available to basketball governing body of Nigeria, the NBBF have decided that:
“Making camp in Lagos is the very best choice for the moment.. We had planned to open the camp in Buffalo but good thinking has advised that we shouldn’t and that we camp in Lagos.”
–Vice-president of the NBBF, Babatunde Ogunade told the media.
The vice-president also explained that counter to initial plans for the boys to spend a good amount of time together, the boys will stay in camp for just 10 days, due to club commitments and money constraints.
“We have a long list of players. Most of our players are in the middle of different competitions with their clubs abroad. Of course, we are struggling with cash, so overall, we are looking at 10 days of camping.”
— Ogunade
D’Tigers will be hoping to maintain their group dominance as they face-off Uganda on June 29, after which the team will take on Rwanda on June 30 and then Mali on July 1.
