Arrangements are in top gear for the 45th anniversary and the 2018 reunion of the Federal Government College Enugu taking place between August 9 and 12 in Enugu. A statement by the organizers said the event is expected to bring together over 1,000 esteemed alumni, family, and friends of the school committed to collectively giving back to the school and to the community. Tagged as #BackToOurRoots, this year’s Reunion promises to be an Iconic one giving alumni all over the world the chance to go back to the school to partner for more progress. Speaking on the planned Grand Reunion, the National President, Mrs. Uju Obuekwe, said that the flagship 4-day reunion weekend, will feature a business forum, recognition and award ceremonies, medical outreach, a visit to the Centre for Memories, an Anniversary Lecture and commissioning of projects executed by the alumni. Federal Government College Enugu is one of the first three generation Federal Government Colleges, established in 1973. It has a vibrant Old Students Association which exists to promote strong student and alumni relationships through service to the school. The association wants to sensitize its members to give back to the school and continue to restore the school as a Centre of academic excellence, national integration and national unity. The Alumni Association has embarked on so many developmental projects, providing funding for educational programs, scholarships and structural improvements in FGCE, since inception. The school has produced some of the best students along with distinguished alumni in all spheres of life including past Governors Senator Liyel Imoke and Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The Chairman of the FGCE Reunion Planning Committee, Elder Ebibomo Timitimi explained that as the school celebrates its 45th Anniversary, the old students are coming together to celebrate with a Grand Reunion on August 9-12, 2018 in Enugu, Nigeria. For him, having been largely shaped by their years in FGCE, it is good to come together, give back and tackle some of the challenges that the school faces.
