The Federal Government has engaged in an agreement with King& Spalding, LLP Geneva, Switzerland, a law firm to provide legal services for Nigeriaās trade remedy legislation as a key element of modern trade policy.
When you go to popular public markets, you would find a lot of unlawful dumping, as the NigerianĀ marketplaces are turned into dumping grounds. Therefore, the need for a law that regulates it is timely.
According to the Chief Negotiator and the Director-General of Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN), Ambassador Chiedu Osakwe for Nigeria, who signed the agreement in Geneva, asserted that the firm is expected to support the drafting of Nigeriaās trade remedy law and prepare a legal brief on the rationale and requirements of the legislation which he hopes would effectively stop the dumping exercise on the Nigerian market.
He added that Nigeria has been struggling unsuccessfully with the increasing nightmare of illegal dumping, and believed that the agreement would stop the practice.
He appreciated the firm for the effort to provide pro bono support and asked for a technically solid partnership to establish a rule-based trade remedy infrastructure in the country this year.
