Sinmisola Ajibola is determined, or possibly, destined to be a headliner; consistently having her name in the news for good. For that sake, she is our everyday Hero; stepping up to the male folks, setting the pace for the female folks. What makes this ‘good-for-everything’ woman our everyday hero? Well, everything with the exception of….nothing that comes to mind at the moment. Below will give you a briefed catalogue of Sinmisola Headlining moves. Good Headliners!
Firstly, Sinmisola was part of the First All-Female Flight Crew on Boeing 737, which took off from the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, Nigeria. It was the first ever in the history of Nigeria’s aviation industry. A historic feat achieved under the wings of the air carrier, Air Peace. This was achieved on the 12th of June, 2018. The purpose of this all female flight crew was to serve as an avenue to promote and encourage women not to relent in the male-dominated industry, also create awareness of gender equality in Nigeria, and project Nigerian women as capable of standing tall among both their male and female counterparts across the world. The flight crew consisted of Capt. Sinmisola Ajibola (who was the pilot in command), Senior First Officer Quincy Owen, SEP Instructor Rosemary Uagbor, Cabin Executives Chidimma Chimezie and Opakirite George. Other females involved in the operations were Engineer Justina Etim and dispatchers Chisom Onyeakposi, Olubukola Olajiga, Ladi Amadu and Loretta Ekeh.
The Boeing 737-300 with Capt Simisola in command and co-piloted by SFO Quincy took a tour: it took off from Lagos and landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 3.29 p.m. There, they were welcomed with a water salute which was performed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) fire service department, From Abuja, the aircraft flew into the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport, Owerri and landed at 6.00 p.m. They received a warm welcome and salute from the passengers and the airport staffs and passengers. After that flight, Sinmisola encouraged girls to chase their dreams.
Secondly, Sinmisola was part of the All-Female Air Peace Crew in Lagos that Foiled the Attempt to Traffic a Three-Day-Old Baby to Lagos from Port Harcourt International Airport by a kidnapper/human/child trafficker. The all-female crew comprised Captain Sinmisola Ajibola, Senior First Officer Onohi Agboighale, Mojoko Ewane, Taiye Abbey, Victoria Ukpiaifo and Ngozi Ezeamaka.
According to Chris Iwarah, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Peace, the suspect booked Air Peace Port Harcourt-Lagos flight P4 7393 and during boarding, the lead member of the crew, Mojoko Ewane, observed that the suspect was handling the baby in an awkward manner and decided to question her. “When the suspect was asked to breastfeed the baby, she could not as there was no breast milk. The suspect tried to create a scene, rallying other passengers on the flight to prevail on Air Peace crew to allow her fly, but the crew stood their ground.” The suspect eventually confessed to have been given the baby by another lady for trafficking. The DSS officials commended Air Peace crew for foiling the attempted child trafficking with their vigilance.
Thirdly, Sinmisola was the Pilot that bravely crash-landed the Air-Peace plane in Lagos, to avert what would have been another fatal plane crash, after the plane lost the front tyre of the aircraft. Passengers praised her unique calm attitude during the grueling minutes that built up to the possible crash. A survivor stated that Sinmisola kept on reassuring them all was under control and she was doing everything possible to ensure they all got out safe and meet their loved ones unhurt.
Sinmisola has demonstrated Intelligence, calm, professionalism and bravery in every sense of the word. How else can heroism be displayed? Today, we put this name in history as a Hero; an inspiration and a force to be reckoned with amongst men and women. To our everyday Hero: Sinmisola Ajibola, RESPECT!!!
