Funmilola Awosanya, a social entrepreneur, is the founder of opportunities.com, a portal that creates employment opportunities for Nigerian youths. Through her platform, she has organized programs that help to empower both men and women alike in areas such as entrepreneurship, business, career, leadership and advocacy. Funmilola is a trained Insurance Broker, holding a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Insurance from Lagos State Polytechnic, Nigeria. According to her, she had gone through several vocational trainings as encouraged by her grandparents while growing up. After her secondary school education in 2007, she was enrolled at YETKEM Catering and Hotel Management. There, she got certified in Catering and Hotel Management. She was subsequently enrolled in a Fashion Designing school after completing her course at YETKEM. These trainings prepared and empowered her to be the entrepreneur that she is today. Although an Insurance Broker – with over 5 years’ experience, she promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #4 and #8 namely “Quality Education” and “Decent work and economic growth” respectively.Therefore, with a burning desire to see that the problem of unemployment is solved in our society, she founded “Opportunities World”, a social enterprise that aims at closing the gap between opportunity providers and those who seek such opportunities. This non-profit enterprise, which is run online through opportunities.com, encourages youths to be innovative in their chosen fields so that they can remain relevant in the society. Besides opportunity creation, Funmilola advocates for quality education. Activities Opportunities World, founded in 2016, provides youths with access to various life-changing local and international opportunities. In its few years of creation, over 5,000 youths from different parts of the world have had the privilege to access quality information of opportunities with which they, in turn, use to effect change in their respective countries. Furthermore, over 10 Nigerian youths have benefitted from the opportunities made available on the platform. Some of such opportunities are the Obama Foundation Fellowship, African Change Makers Fellowship, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), Mandela Washington Fellowship and Erasmus Mundus Scholarship amongst others. 70 other Nigerians have been empowered with vocational skills like Tie and Dye, Ankara accessories making, and game programming, which has increased the number of vibrant SMEs in the community. These empowerment programs help to create more jobs and reduce youth idleness. Achievements Funmilola is a women, child and youth development advocate, and has volunteered in various lecturing and overseeing committees. As a change agent, she volunteers with Young Transformation Initiative, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) West African Region, and Makoko Dream Project. She currently chairs the National Networking and Events Committee for the Nigeria YALI RLC Alumni. She also mentors on Cherie Blair Mentoring Women in Business program and Mentor on Style Mark Mall Enterprise, and is a Program Facilitator for different young leadership programs.
